Base Plate Installations & Custom Fits

Baseplates are installed on your vehicle's frame to provide attachment points for your tow bar. The size of the baseplate will vary depending on the type of vehicle and what you intend to tow. Smitty’s RV & Welding is well known for RV and motorhome baseplate installations and upgrades as well as car-mounted base plates. As a welding specialist, we do also provide custom base plate installations too. 


The two most commonly requested baseplates are:

Direct-Connect Baseplate 

This style of baseplate eliminates the need for a crossbar as it directly connects your tow bar and baseplate. Smitty's RV & Welding recommends you to choose this baseplate if you are using a motorhome-mounted tow bar (except Sterling). Call us today for a free estimate on baseplates!

 Crossbar-Style Baseplate 

This style of baseplate utilizes the crossbar and/or quick-disconnect system as a mounting platform and accommodates Roadmaster tow bars and accessories. It comes in handy if you are using a Sterling or a car-mounted tow bar.

We were in a crisis mode when traveling with our RV and our towbar broke for our tow vehicle. We called several places and no one seemed to have a clue. We called Smitty's RV & Welding and they gave us hope. We drove 45 minutes to Houston and showed them the tow bar and within a half hour, it was fixed and we were on our way back to the RV Park.
